1.) My experience with music has rarely been in touch with technology. My school had minimal funding for its music program, so the most I ever got to use were music writing softwares like Finale. I dabbled in composing, but never had the knowledge on doing so. I got to JMU, however, and it completely opened up my eyes to everything I was missing. Since I've been here, I've gotten to experience many new types of music-creating technology that, frankly, I didn't even know existed. I've only gotten the opportunity to experience these for a short amount of time so far, but it makes me realize how important music technology actually is. I realize that it opens up people's mind to music. It creates more than just notes on a page and blowing through a piece of brass. It lets us create sounds, waves, pitches, loops, and many more. It expands the amount of creativity we can express by so much, and I am very excited to learn more.
2.) Out of every type of music related technology I have experienced, I would love to learn more about the mosaic that we discovered in class last week. It seemed so simple- press a button and cool sounds come out. As I watched the computer screen, however, there's so much more that can be done with it. I'm not sure of the possibilities of the contraption, but I would love to be able to find out. There is no real example of the piece of technology I am interested in because of how it was created by a JMU student. I would love to contact him, however, and learn how it works, how to manipulate it, and how he came up with such a thing. 3.) Is there a way that we could get in touch with MIDI? It's so interesting reading about it, but I just cant picture how it works. What is an example of 'creativity' software? Comments are closed.
