This year, my partner Alexis Anderson and I have created an interactive Makey Makey Orchestra using Graphite drawings of different instruments. We were assigned the Core Arts Standard Anchor Standard #1, which is to "generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work". In this experience, we have multiple options depending on the amount of students we will be working with.
The Students and their parents will have opportunities to potentially draw an orchestra instrument of their choice. (We will already have pre-printed photos and drawings of each instrument that we need.) If this is not possible, we also have a backup plan! We will already have pre-drawn photos of our instruments, so we could also use those if we are able! After the drawings have been set, students will take turns to touch the drawing, and being able to hear the sound that comes from the laptop as the conductivity is processed through the Makey Makey! Overall, this will be an experience in creating physical, drawn art, while also learning about the instrumentation in an orchestra. From what the instruments look like, to what they sound like, students will hopefully take away a great amount of knowledge from our activity!
