Within my sophomore year at JMU, I have engaged with a variety of wonderful people. In particular, however, four other Music Education students, Jesse Rathgeber, and I have been consistently collaborating with each other for various presentations planned throughout the rest of this year and next year. We have been planning, researching and creating various presentations and materials to support our research project, “Tinkering with Music through Technology”. Most recently, this phenomenal group and I showcased a poster presentation entitled “Considering Tinkering with Music through Technology” at the Teaching and Learning with Technology Conference (TLT) here at JMU. This conference allowed us to not only visually present our work with a poster, but also vocally expressed what we have learned and researched to conference attendees throughout the day. We are also currently working toward expanding our knowledge and experience with music technology further into the community and the world, so our engagement with each other shows no sign of dwindling anytime soon! My first semester at JMU was much like most students'. I was nervous, but still determined to do the best that I could at all that I could. Our music technology class really pushed the idea of engagement and working with others that you may not know. Through this class, I collaborated with Davina Miaw to create many projects throughout the semester. From a podcast, to a coding extravaganza, we managed to work as a team to reach our goals. We eventually created a final project for MUS 150 that would open doors and allow us to be where we are now in the present. Our “Draw Your Own Music” experience sparked our interest in music technology. Even today, we continue to work as a team outside of class. By the time I student teach, I would love to have engaged with more than just my colleagues at JMU. Through these future conferences and presentations, I will be exposed to many influential music educators throughout the nation that would be a pleasure to collaborate with! Through these experiences here at JMU, even within my two years, I will be able to better collaborate with colleagues and fellow educators in the future, along with my future students as well!
